Captain Rex on Endor Commission - Star Wars Legion

At Brush and Anvil, we love bringing iconic characters to life, and few are as instantly recognisable as Captain Rex. This recent commission gave us the opportunity to showcase him in his classic blue and white Phase II armour, paired with a lush forest base inspired by the moon of Endor, a setting that perfectly complements Rex’s grounded, battle-hardened character.

Building the Forest of Endor

We started by crafting a base that truly felt alive. Using textured earth tones, layered forest debris, and natural rock elements, we built up a dense woodland floor reminiscent of Endor’s forests. The addition of STL printed tree trunks helped achieve this dark and eery look. The goal was to create an environment that frames Rex naturally, adding narrative depth without pulling focus away from the model itself.

Painting the Veteran Clone

Rex’s armour is deceptively complex. While the blue and white scheme is iconic, achieving the right balance between cleanliness and wear was key. We layered soft highlights across the white plates to keep them crisp, while carefully weathering edges and recesses to reflect years of frontline combat. The blue markings were built up in smooth, rich layers to maintain saturation while still allowing subtle battle damage to show through.

His kama and undersuit were kept in darker, muted tones to provide contrast against the brighter armour plates, helping define his silhouette and reinforce his commanding presence. Every scratch, chip, and highlight was placed with intention, telling the story of a clone captain who has seen it all and kept fighting.

The Final Result

The finished piece captures exactly what we aim for at Brush and Anvil: character, atmosphere, and storytelling. Captain Rex stands confidently amidst the forest floor, a seasoned leader ready for the next engagement. The natural tones of the Endor-inspired base contrast beautifully with his bold armour, creating a dynamic and visually striking display piece.

This commission was an absolute pleasure to work on, and we’re incredibly proud of the final result. We hope you love the work, Anthony, and we can’t wait to get started on your next models.

If you’re interested in commissioning your own custom character or scene, the Brush and Anvil workshop is always open.
